2009 Story Book

Resource type

DESCRIPTION:

We’re very pleased to present the 2009 Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Storybook. This year’s Storybook reflects the theme of ‘Youth Mentoring’ and shares heart-warming stories of how mentors connect with at risk children and youth to build stronger, safer communities.

Our theme this year also coincides with the launch of Alberta Mentoring Partnership. FCSSAA is proud to be a member of this provincial initiative dedicated to supporting local mentoring services so that every child at risk who needs a mentor, has access to a mentor.

As you flip through the pages of the Storybook, some stories will make you smile while others will impress or surprise you, all serving as a reminder of the critical need to extend mentoring to all at risk children and youth in our communities.

You’ll notice that when it comes to mentoring, a one-size-fits-all solution does not apply. Mentorship takes on many forms including formal programs such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, in-school student matches, one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring through special events, or simply spending quality time with a grandparent - to name only a few approaches. Through a variety of innovative programs, FCSS staff and volunteers have reached out and made a real difference in the lives of young individuals who each have their own unique needs.
