St. Paul Regional FCSS
Gwen joined St. Paul Regional FCSS in January 2022 and serves as an FCSS/Lakeland Family Resource Network Assistant Programmer. Like many community programmers, Gwen wears many hats, supporting both St. Paul Regional FCSS and the Lakeland Family Resource Network out of our Elk Point office. Her unique role spans both organizations, allowing her to develop and facilitate programs for community members of all ages, from young children to older adults. Gwen thrives on the variety her position offers and values the opportunity to connect with people across all stages of life.
How have Gwen’s life experiences helped in her role?
Gwen is an Early Learning and Child Care Educator with a strong background in childcare. While raising her two children in a small town, she recognized the limited opportunities available outside of organized sports and school activities. This experience gave her a deep appreciation for the importance of accessible community programming. Her education and professional background made the transition into her FCSS role a natural fit. While the work can sometimes be challenging, Gwen finds it incredibly rewarding to help address community needs and witness the positive impact programs have on individuals and families.
Why did Gwen get involved in FCSS?
Gwen’s journey with FCSS began when she came across a job posting that immediately sparked her interest. Believing her skills and experience aligned well with the position, she applied and was selected for the role. She is grateful for the opportunity, which has deepened her understanding of the community and strengthened her commitment to serving local residents.
What has Gwen learned in her role with FCSS?
One of Gwen’s most important takeaways has been the vital role local support systems play in small communities. She understands that not everyone has the ability to travel to larger centres to access services and resources. By helping connect people to supports close to home, Gwen believes communities become stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to meet the needs of their residents.

The Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta (FCSSAA) was founded in 1981, as a member-driven organization dedicated to bringing Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) programs from across the province together. We provide the platform for our member programs to connect and collaborate, so they can maximize resources and speak with an informed, credible, unified voice to all stakeholders.
