Faces of FCSS Adam

Adam Smith,
Board Member,
Ponoka FCSS

My name is Adam Smith, I am a board member with Ponoka FCSS. Aside from my regular duties with the board, I have been on a few committees, specifically HR and ethics. In my role with FCSS I have come to know my community better, and have come to have a better appreciation for the unique challenges faced by all of Ponoka’s residents.

I am a social worker within the addictions field, and have at various times throughout my career, in different cities throughout Alberta relied on FCSS to assist my clients with housing, job support, food insecurity and funding. It was through my employment and referring clients to FCSS that I decided to volunteer for the Board. When I moved to Ponoka and was searching for a way to better acclimate to the community, my first thought was FCSS and volunteer opportunities. It not only helped me feel like a welcome resident of Ponoka but also helped me in my role as a social worker within the community.

The biggest take away from my time at FCSS is that although our neighborhoods are incredibly diverse, the problems facing them are not as unique as one might initially think. Solutions are available, but we need to work together with stakeholders and neighbors to implement them successfully.

I look forward to continuing my volunteer work with FCSS into the future!

FCSSAA

The Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta (FCSSAA) was founded in 1981, as a member-driven organization dedicated to bringing Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) programs from across the province together. We provide the platform for our member programs to connect and collaborate, so they can maximize resources and speak with an informed, credible, unified voice to all stakeholders.
