Nycailah Belsher,
Community Programmer,
Smoky River FCSS
My name is Nycailah Belsher. I am a Community Programmer at Smoky River FCSS. I provide programming tailored for children, youth, adults, families, and seniors within the Smoky River region. I also assist community members in accessing government supports and in navigating the food bank application process. In addition, I often act as a referral source, helping connect people to the resources they need.
I first became involved with FCSS in September 2023 in Sylvan Lake as a second-year social work practicum student. I was able to gain experience participating in family enrichment, home visitation, early childhood development, and child and youth empowerment programming as offered by the Family Resource Network. I began my work with Smoky River FCSS in May 2024, following my relocation from Red Deer to Falher.
My current role has given me the opportunity to work alongside individuals of all ages in a wide variety of settings, something I’m truly appreciative of. It has allowed for frequent collaboration with other organizations in and around the five municipalities we serve, and has also provided me with a sense of belonging as a new person in the community. My innate skills, along with those strengthened through my social work education, have only continued to grow through this work.

FCSSAA
The Family and Community Support Services Association of Alberta (FCSSAA) was founded in 1981, as a member-driven organization dedicated to bringing Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) programs from across the province together. We provide the platform for our member programs to connect and collaborate, so they can maximize resources and speak with an informed, credible, unified voice to all stakeholders.
